Today, we have a total of seven types of light bulbs. Each type has a different lifespan, with some having shorter lifespans depending on their type and usage.
Traditional light bulbs are popular due to their low price, but their lifespan is short, requiring frequent replacement.
Currently, the most popular light bulbs in use today are LED bulbs.
Today, we will introduce the different types of light bulbs and explore how their lifespans compare.
Nowadays, we have many types of light bulbs, each with specific characteristics. There are differences in color, wattage, and brightness, which can be confusing.
However, if we understand the different types of light bulbs, it becomes easier to choose the right one for each room and its intended use. This not only helps save costs by replacing bulbs when they reach the end of their lifespan, but it also helps save electricity and preserves our eyesight.
Light bulbs, as we know them, come in more types than we might be aware of. Beyond their age or usage value (such as fluorescent tubes, which have mostly been replaced by LEDs), there are other differences.
Some types of bulbs produce excessive brightness. When the brightness, or Lux value, is too high, it can cause discomfort or disturb us in certain spaces. For example, in terms of IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality), visual comfort can be affected if the Lux value is too high, leading to eye irritation. Therefore, each type of light bulb is designed to meet different usage needs.
This type of light bulb has been used for a long time. It emits a reddish light, similar to candlelight, and comes in both clear glass and frosted varieties. These bulbs can produce heat as high as 100 to 400 degrees Celsius but have a luminous efficiency of only 10-15 lm/W. While the heat output is high, the luminosity is low, which may pose a risk of accidents. Additionally, they consume a significant amount of electricity.
Long light bulbs are commonly seen in residences or offices. They are five times brighter than incandescent bulbs. This type of bulb cannot be connected directly to an electrical circuit because it would burn out as soon as electricity is applied. It must be connected to additional devices, namely a starter and ballast.
Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) bulbs, as we know them, are small fluorescent lamps. They have a compact size, high brightness, and use four times less energy than incandescent bulbs, resulting in a longer lifespan. There are both types with built-in ballasts and those that require external ballasts.
If we look at the data or general usage, we can see that CFLs have a lifespan that is 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. They also offer more options, such as varying brightness and wattage to suit different needs.
For example, LAMPTAN’s Compact Fluorescent light bulbs, available in double packs, come in both chopstick and spiral designs. They offer two color tones to choose from: Daylight and Warm White, with a lifespan of 8,000-10,000 hours.
It was developed from incandescent bulbs and is a type of light bulb that contains halogen gas inside, making it more durable than regular incandescent bulbs. As a result, it has a longer lifespan compared to other types of bulbs. The light it emits has the most accurate color rendering and is commonly used in areas that require adjustable brightness or focused lighting.
In areas that require focused lighting, such as display cabinets.
Halogen bulbs can have adjustable brightness, or dimmer lights can be installed in rooms where adjustable lighting is needed.
A small light bulb, but highly efficient, with very high brightness. This type of bulb operates well under high pressure and temperature and is mostly used for decorative lighting.

This type of light bulb operates by releasing a high concentration of charge. It has a low color accuracy and a high lumen output per watt, allowing it to shine over long distances, making it suitable for outdoor work. There are both ballast and non-ballast versions available, but the non-ballast type has a shorter lifespan.
This type of light bulb is very popular today because it uses fewer watts while providing more brightness. This bulb addresses the shortcomings of other bulbs by being eye-friendly, as it does not emit UV rays or hazardous gases, making it more comfortable for the eyes and saving up to 70% more energy compared to other types of bulbs.
Some models, like LAMPTAN’s LED light bulb, can save up to 85% on energy consumption and are one of the brands whose LED bulbs can prevent power surges with a Surge Protection system of up to 500V.

In addition to the brightness of the light bulb, bulbs are also categorized based on their lifespan. The popularity of LED bulbs stems not only from their high energy efficiency and low heat emission (they do not emit UV rays) but also from their impressive lifespan of up to 50,000 hours.
Lightbulb type | Lifespan |
Incandescent Lamp bulb | 750 hours |
Fluorescent tube | 6,000 – 20,000 hours |
Compact Fluorescent Lamp bulb | 8,000 – 10,000 hours |
Halogen Bulb | 1,500 – 3,000 hours |
Metal halide bulb | 24,000 hours |
Mercury lamp bulb | 24,000 hours |
LED Bulb | 50,000 hours |
We believe that you wouldn’t want to install warehouse bulbs in your bedroom, as each type of light bulb has different characteristics based on its usage and the purpose of each type.
In addition to considering the type of light bulb, you should also look at its lifespan and wattage.
Once we understand the characteristics of light bulbs, we can choose the right ones that are suitable and energy-efficient.
