If we encounter the question of what tool is essential for many households, the answer is likely to be a screwdriver.
Whether it’s a complimentary item received with furniture purchases, a screwdriver should always be kept at home. It is used not only for handyman tasks but also for simple matters, such as changing batteries in devices that cannot be easily opened, or fixing household items that are making a *creaking* noise by just tightening them.
The screwdriver was invented in the late 15th century (around the years 1475-1500) in the regions of France or Germany. Both countries have specific terms for the screwdriver as well; in German, it is called Schraubenzieher (which translates to ‘tool that makes screws tight’), and in French, it is called Tournevis (which translates to ‘screw turner’).
The screwdriver was specifically developed for carpenters and is known as the Flat Blade Screwdriver, or the flat-headed screwdriver we commonly know. The first flat-headed screwdriver was simply designed, uncomplicated, and perfected in 1744. Portable screwdrivers came about after 1800, and many other screwdriver heads have since been developed, including the Phillips head (+), which was created in 1930 by Henry Phillips and is known as the Phillips screwdriver in English.
In summary, a screwdriver is a tool designed to drive screws in and out. That’s it. What’s important is choosing the right type and using the screwdriver appropriately.
For example, a screwdriver with a star-shaped tip, known as a Torx screwdriver, requires selecting the correct screwdriver according to its intended use.
Choosing the right screwdriver is a good option and helps prevent the deterioration of screw heads. The deterioration of screw heads may lead to an inability to remove them using normal methods.
Screwdrivers are typically divided into three types, which are commonly found in screwdriver sets available for purchase. For instance, small screwdrivers are usually referred to as Precision Screwdrivers because of their size and the need for accuracy.
The other two types are Security, which often come in the form of Torx screwdrivers, and Project screwdrivers, which we don’t often see. The Project screwdriver type has a relatively niche application.
This type of screwdriver is small and requires precision. Each type is categorized based on its specific application. For example, the Pentalobe is used for removing screws on iPhones
As the name of the type suggests, this is a screwdriver designed for safety, known as Tamper-resistant, or anti-theft screws. It is also used to indicate that tampering is prohibited and to support product warranties
Each type of screwdriver has different uses. Choose the right type, and you will say goodbye to the frustration of a screwdriver that cannot turn screws. You can check it out in the >>> Screwdriver product category.
